we talk of spirit anomalies
about their reason to be here,
the allegory of their trapped state.

mouthfuls of purpose
shackled to them--
unrequited ambition,
tales of romance,
revenge.

maybe they are here to live in peace,
they live to walk among us unhindered,
enjoying the earth's beauty
equal,
observant,
tolerant.

time?
what of it...
they have no pressing matters,
no one to impress.

we think we live,
but we rot,
we die,
painfully
by time
and fate's
cold
hands.

everyday
a little more trapped,
a little more in debt,
a little more intolerant.

is there no greater life than one unbound?
no worse death than soul trapped by beating heart and pain of flesh?

the ghosts
they laugh at us,
but offer no pity.

it
would
be
undeserved.
