the cost of brevity

1. you should see the other guy
i'm the joke
you've run out of ways
to laugh at

yet
you still hang around
when there are plenty of good
punchlines
out there

2. morgue
my thoughts are corpses
falling out of my ears
when i sleep

i spend a lifetime
sweeping them
into a corner
to deal with later

3. on writing
their words cut you
in
half

your dreams
eaten off the floor
the electronic disembowelment

4. embargo
no more surprises
i've locked them
all away
the next one i see

gets shot

5. black and red
your stare
shoots napalm
on unsuspecting passers-by
open your mouth
and it rains knives
oh how you hurt

i love you

keep the car running

i once loved a girl there

amongst the tops of
swaying pine trees

listening to the clatter
of loose boards beneath our feet
as we walked upon the pier

swiftly we rambled across
the bustling downtown streets

i was not enough to save it
all these things

sank

...and splintered memories
of a murky soul

float

to the top

oh, the hills scatter into the darkness
player piano
the kissinger carcass
a killer's prayer
four forty in thirteen
burned
all that you've paid for
three reasons to walk home
